Minutes of GNCC General meeting — May 26, 2009.

Present: Keith, Tobi, Chris, Dave

1: What Next? A number of possible tasks were suggested. They were:

• Provide Valet Parking at events
• Reconnect with the City of Nanaimo staff to find out their plans that might impact cyclists. It was suggested that the contact should be Richard Harding and that we should meet with him, offering our support and suggestions (trails, signage, road markings, trail maintenance, maps, future plans, etc.)
• Pushing for better access at crosswalks for cyclists or other wheeled vehicles.
• Upgrading stenciling of lines and symbols on roadways. (note - perhaps we need to be lobbying for discrete, marked bike lanes too.)
• Road embedded loop detectors need to be checked and adjusted to respond to bicycles.
• Roadside push buttons need to be installed at some corners so cyclists can demand the right of way like pedestrians do with walk/don't walk buttons (Vancouver has them). This one should be a priority.

2: Membership.

We have two corporate members now (Oak Bay & Dr. Phillips) and 15 regular members. Bravo!

3: Spokelore.

Well received it seems. The next edition will be out in September. Send Tobi your contributions.

4: Future Rides.

Only two to go till summer. Participants have ranged from two to eight. Highly undersubscribed and has generated no new members (It has been poorly advertised, a likely causative factor, my fault). We will revisit this in the fall.

5: Financial.

No full report but we think we have about $150.00 at present.

6: June Meeting.

Tobi is to run this meeting and she is considering a ride and a gathering at a pub of her choice. Chris & Dave will be out of town then.

7 AGM and AGM Presentation—October.

We will have multi cycle touring presentations of about 15 minutes each (Chris—England, Tobi—Northern Alberta, Dave—Sunshine coast, maybe Jim, Australia, Czech Republic, Hawaii, Cuba or the rest of the world ;< )
